Above was the lovely picture we were greeted with yesterday lunchtime as we opened the doors for service! Yes fall certainly arrived in dramatic fashion with roads around East Allington better suited to canoes & boats than cars.. I suppose in the great scheme of things we should consider ourselves lucky that summer this year was better than previous. If one can believe anything the weather forecasters predict then it looks like a return to summer is imminent with temperatures soaring to 30C, potentially meaning the hottest autumn day in 67 years.
Summer here @thefortescue has been uplifting, seeing so many repeat customers from the previous year that decided to visit South Hams again for their annual holiday. Many guests have frequented several times during their vacation with one family dining every night apart from one (something to do with the husband wishing to watch football). This is testament to our concerted efforts in terms of customer service & meals produced by our kitchen. We are pleased to say this level of commitment has been recognised by Tripadvisor reviewers and we have been awarded a Certificate Of Excellence for the second year running, something of which we are very proud!
Along with blood, sweat & tears we have enjoyed many laughs & surprises along the way! A lovely family with a dog visited one evening for supper and it's always our policy to make a fuss of man's best friend as much as we do the customers. Whilst the family enjoyed a lovely supper the dog was enjoying a well deserved rest under the table whilst devouring what we all thought was one of the many logs that adorn the fire place, it was even mentioned in conversation that he liked wood just as much as our dog Bramble does! Later that evening Adrian & I were cleaning (which is one of our many chores we like to do before we retire for the night, instead of being faced with this task in the morning), when we noticed that the wood so said dog had eaten was in fact the leg of the table! Oops
The summer has given us many challenges all of which make us stronger people and form part of life's rich tapestry! Lets hope our Indian summer will last through till at least the half term break, making for a short winter.
Keep watching for more posts, but until then keep safe and enjoy the weather.
