What our guests say:
A real gem - like pubs used to be. Not to be missed.

Superb - like pubs used to be (and should be). Food is outrageously good value - high quality home cooked meals at a price comfortably lower than anywhere else we ate out in a week’s holiday in the area. Waitress was brilliant - really friendly and good with the kids, and the landlord was very friendly as well. Little touches were great - after dinner mints for the adults and a little packet of sweets for the kids. If you are in the area and looking for somewhere to eat out or go for a friendly drink in a traditional and atmospheric pub, don’t miss the chance to come here. You can tell they are doing something right as the pub was packed with locals having a good old chin wag over a drink after work on a Friday.
A gem

An absolute gem. Excellent food and a friendly welcome. Plenty of vegetarian options along with a smile and friendly service. My wife had the vegetarian curry and I had fish and chips . Both were equally excellent. The second evening I had a burger and the wife requested a collection of vegetarian starters to make up a main course. In all instances the food and the service were outstanding. A big recommended from me.
Steak 'n' kidney pud

A wonderful village pub. Following our last visit for an excellent Sunday roast we returned as threatened for the steak and kidney pud. Perfectly cooked. Ian, as ever full of charm and bonhomie whilst Adrian works his magic in the kitchen. Outstanding value. Until next time my lovelies. Featured in Devon Live and Good Pub Guide.
Lovely lovely pub with scrumptious food

We had such a lovely time visiting this gorgeous country pub. There were 10 of us altogether having dinner and all 10 of us said it was the perfect place to come for our last day of our holiday because of the delicious food and the lovely, smiley welcoming staff who were attentive and on hand to give us advice about the local spots. All 10 of us left with a full belly and we are excited to come back next year and many years after as our holiday pub (hopefully you will still be serving that lasagne which was to die for) Thank you for the excellent service and yummy food. Chloe- “the tikka masala was DELICIOUS and the staff were so sweet” Ziggy the toddler- wants to come back for the sticky toffee pudding that he wouldn’t share even though it wasn’t his.
Lovely Sunday Lunch

Family group of 12 (plus baby) had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous. We can be a fussy lot when it comes to food but between us we had just about everything on the menu and we all agreed we couldn't fault it. Portions that arrived on the plate were very generous, tasty and with properly cooked meats and were supplemented by dishes of extra veg including broccoli & cauliflower cheese. The Vegetarian dishes were also worthy of high praise as were the puddings which we just had to try even though we were about to burst! On top of that service was friendly and very prompt even though we didn't pre-order our meals and to round it off we thought it was excellent value for money. Would highly recommend a visit here.
A fantastic evening at the Fortescue!

Wow!!! What an incredible find. We are staying in Salcombe and wanted to dine somewhere that offered really good pub food and accepted dogs. The Fortescue was the perfect spot. Amazing food, incredible service with a super relaxed atmosphere. Thanks so much!
